Dear Trinity-Spadina Community Organizations,
Volunteers play a pivotal role in Ontario. Whether it’s by helping with newcomer settlement, spending Sundays with seniors at a retirement home, organizing cultural events, or coaching a children’s soccer team, volunteers make invaluable contributions to our compassionate and vibrant province. They do so without pay and without any expectation of recognition.
It’s important that we acknowledge the selfless work of Ontario’s volunteers. That’s why the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration is requesting nominations for its annual Volunteer Service Awards program. Organizations that have been operating for five or more years are eligible to nominate volunteers to receive a Volunteer Service Award by filling out the attached form and submitting it to the Ministry before January 25th, 2017. The form can also be found at:
Completed forms can be sent to:
Ontario Honours and Awards Secretariat
Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration
400 University Avenue, 4th Floor
Toronto, Ontario, M7A 2R9
Volunteers must be active beyond simple membership in their organization, and must not have received payment for their volunteer work. They can be recognized for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30+, 40+, 50+ or 60+ years of continuous service to the same organization. Youth (under the age of 24) who have volunteered for two or more consecutive years at the same organization are also eligible.
Each organization may nominate up to nine volunteers for a Volunteer Service Award, three of whom must be youth. If an organization is nominating only adults, it can nominate up to six volunteers for recognition.
The Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration relies on the nominating organization to ensure that the information provided is accurate and that the nominees have met the above eligibility requirements. Ministry staff review Volunteer Service Award nominations and acknowledge them by mail. In the spring, the Ministry holds ceremonies across the province to celebrate the contributions of the award recipients, who are given a stylized trillium pin and personalized certificate.
I encourage you to nominate your outstanding volunteers for this award as soon as possible. If you have any questions or require assistance with the application, please don’t hesitate to call my office at 416-603-9664 or via Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
This website is provided for your convenience. If you'd prefer to call or email, my staff and I would be happy to hear from you.
